Driving is a Privilege

Driving is a Privilege

Born and raised in a country where the culture is tainted by corruption (sigh), I can’t help admiring the strict law and rules in the US. One of the most well-concerned law is driving-related.

In order to drive on the road of any state in US, you have to follow a series of procedures. First of all, you must get a liability insurance for your property (vehicle) and for yourself with minimum coverage as declared by the state you live in. Secondly, you must own a driving license. Of course.

To earn a driving license, you must pass a writing, vision and road test. All can be completed at the local DPS (Department of Public Safety). Or, you can take a driver education class and complete your exam at driving school somewhere, then submit your certificate to the DPS to get your vision and road test.

Last week, I just completed my Driver Education from this site. Since I’m a beginner in driving, I still have to brush up my driving skill (especially to adapt to the left-steering wheel). So, after I receive my completion certificate, instead of applying for a driving license and scheduling for a road test, I will apply for a learner’s license first to be able to drive on public road legally. But, that’s not all, my friends. I will have to be accompanied by an adult (over 21 y.o.) with a valid US driving license on the passenger seat.

Driving a motor vehicle is law binding matter. It’s an act that requires special skills involving full concentration, good judgment, correct decision and multitasking ability. Driving is a privilege, not a right. This privilege can be taken away due to failure of conduct.

If only every driver can manage to remember that every time they’re behind the wheel, maybe the number of accidents and collisions could be lessened.
